Timpany Walton is a well-known South Canterbury law firm, located in Timaru. We have a broadly based practice which offers capacity in depth thanks to our ongoing commitment to the development of specialist expertise.

Our Firm

Timpany Walton has been an important part of the South Canterbury law scene for over 60 years. The firm was founded in the late 1930s and now numbers 16 staff, including four partners.

At Timpany Walton, we believe better law means better business. The firm has considerable experience in a wide range of legal areas and its partners and staff have a commitment to continuing to develop skills and expertise to meet future client needs.

We have had to develop comprehensive solutions to business problems which are not confined solely to traditional legal issues to ensure that we continue to deliver relevant services.

Individual Partners are not only responsible for keeping informed and being up-to-date in specialist areas, they have a responsibility to keep the other Partners abreast of relevant developments. Thus, broad general experience is supplemented by ready access to specialised knowledge.

We were the first South Island law firm to achieve ISO9001 and the firm's aim is to continually deliver top quality legal and business advice and help to its clients.

Lawlink Support

Timpany Walton is the South Canterbury member of Lawlink. The resources and expertise of each firm are coordinated through The Lawlink Group and made available to all other firms within the Group and their clients.

Many lawyers within the Group are recognised as experts in their particular field and are called upon for the continuing legal education programmes of Lawlink members as well as of the District and New Zealand Law Societies.

The Lawlink Group has cooperated to develop an information retrieval system, which gives on-line access to legislation, cases, commentary, precedents, opinions, seminar materials, expertise database, publications and special interest group databases. Every Timpany Walton staff member has desktop, on-line access to this system as well as the ability to communicate by electronic mail.

The member firms also co-operate to build individual specialist expertise and knowledge through the medium of special interest practice groups.

Mailings

At regular intervals, we issue reprints of important articles on legal subjects, which are of relevance or interest to specific clients. We also publish an occasional newsletter which is mailed free to all our clients.
