Lower company tax rate - worth restructuring your affairs?

The new company tax rate of 30% came into force on 1 April 2008. The previous rate had been 33%. In light of the lowering of the tax rate, it may be appropriate to consider restructuring your affairs to utilise a company as your trading entity. The earlier article discussed different approaches adopted in the Environment Court towards assessing resource consents for restricted discretionary activities. Since that article was written the High Court has issued its decision in Auckland City Council v The John Woolley Trust (CIV 2004-404-3787).
